Boudreaux genetics vocab
| Vocabulary | Definition/Example |

| genetics | the study of how traits are inherited |
| allele | the different forms a gene can take (ex. brown eye allele or blue eye allele) |
| dominant | an allele that always shows; it covers up recessive alleles; shown with a capital letter (ex. brown eyes (B) are dominant) |
| recessive | an allele that is covered up by a dominant allele; will only show if both alleles are recessive (blue eyes (b) are recessive) |
| genotype | the genetic makeup of an organism (ex. Bb) |
| phenotype | the appearance or behavior of an organism as determined by the genes (ex. having brown eyes) |
| purebred | having two of the same alleles (ex. BB or bb) |
| hybrid | having two different alleles (ex. Bb) |
| Punnett square | a tool with four boxes used to determine the probability of certain genotypes in the offspring of two parents |
