What do we call The maintenance of a constant internal environment by the body? Homeostasis
What part of the brain that detects changes in temperature? Hypothalamus
What do we call A simple sugar used by cells for respiration? Glucose
What do we call A hormone that regulates the level of sugar in the blood and can be produced by genetically modified bacteria? Insulin
What do we call Large gland located in the abdomen near the stomach which produces digestive enzymes and the hormone insulin? Pancreas
What does the body do when there is a decrease in temperature? Shivering, hairs stand up, blood vessels contract
What does the body do when there is an increase in temperature? Sweating, hair lies flat, blood vessels expand.
What happens when blood glucose levels increase? Insulin is produced, glucose is stored in the liver.
Where is excess glucose stored? Liver
What happens when blood glucose is too low? liver releases the stored glucose (glucagon is produced)
What is normal body temperature? 37oC
