| Heredity | Passage of genetic instructions from parents to offspring |
| Gene | Segments of DNA found in chromosomes that give instructions for procing certain characteristics |
| Allele | Different versions of a gene |
| Genotype | Combination of alleles you inherited from your parents |
| Phenotype | Observable traits one has |
| Dominant | Dominant allele contributes to the phenotype or observable traits |
| Recessive | Allele that contributes to the phenotype when paired with another recessive allele |
| Incomplete dominance | Each allele in a heterozygous individual influences the phenotype or observable characteristic. Phenotype is a blend of the alleles. |
| Codominance | Both alleles in a heterozygous individual contribute to the phenotype. Both alleles are observed. |
| Heterozygous | The organism has one dominant and one recessive allele in the gene |
| Homozygous | The organism has two dominant or two recessive alleles in the gene. |
