GFG LS1 Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Simulate To imitate how something happens in a real-world situation by acting it out with a model.
Initial carrier The first person in a group to get a contagious disease.
Model A way of representing something in the world to learn more about it.
Epidemiology The study of how and why diseases occur.
Epidemiologist A scientist who studies diseases and how they spread.
Sentinel case A person who begins the spread of a disease in a group
Communicable disease A disease that spreads very readily from person to person.
Non- communicable disease A disease that cannot be passed on by the person who is sick to other people.
Symptom An indication in your body that you have a disease.
Gastrointestinal Related to the stomach and intestines.
Infection The growth of germs in your body.
Parasite Organism that lives and feeds either inside of or attached to another organism and does harm to that organism.
Sanitation The disposal of sewage and waste.
Hygiene Things that people do to stay healthy.
Dehydration (medical) a condition in which the body does not have enough fluid to function properly.
Stool The solid waste that is produced by the body.
Antibiotic A type of medicine that kills germs or prevents them from growing.
