Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration

TermDefinition
Photosynthesis Plants use the energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make sugars (glucose) for food.
Cellular Respiration The process of breaking down food to produce ATP
Xylem Transports water from roots to cells in plants.
Phloem Transports nutrients made in the leaf cells to all parts of the plant.
Chloroplast Organelle found in plant cells that is involved in photosynthesis.
Chlorophyll A green pigment found in chloroplast that captures energy from sunlight
Mitochondria Organelle in eukaryotic cells that converts food to energy or ATP.
ATP Adenosine triphosphate is energy stored in a molecule resulting from cellular respiration.
