SPI Chapter 7

Range Equation

QuestionAnswer
What is "go-return time" or "time-of-flight" the elapsed time from pulse creation to pulse reception
What is "the time-of-flight" directly related to? how deep a sound pulse travel
What is the formula for depth? depth (mm) = 1.54 mm/us x go-return (us)/2
What does the 13-microsecond rule applies to? when sound travels through soft tissue
For every 13 microseconds, how many cm goes deep in the body? 1 cm
How do you find the total distance traveled? ? cm x 2 = total distanced traveled
When a sonographer adjusts imaging depth, what else do they alter? PRP
What is PRP? start of one pulse to the start of a next pulse
Mathematically, in soft tissue what is the formula for PRP? PRP (us) = imaging depth (cm) x 13 us/cm
What is PRP directly related to? the maximum imaging depth
When depth of view is shallow... PRF is high
When depth of view is deep... PRF is low
In one second, how deep can sound travel into a tissue and return from? 77,000 cm
How do you calculate PRF in soft tissue? PRF (Hz) = 77, 000 cm/s/imaging depth (cm)
