Unit 1- Microscope
Can you remember the names of all the parts of the microscope?
| Term | Definition |

| compound light microscope | the type of microscope we use in class, it has two magnifying lenses |
| total magnification | magnification of the eyepiece multiplied by the magnification of the objective lens |
| eyepiece | the part of the microscope where you look through to see your specimen |
| tube or body tube | connects the eyepiece to the objective lenses |
| revolving nosepiece | this swivels so you can change the lens to magnify differently |
| objective lens | Magnifies the slide. Our microscopes have three lenses - high, medium, and low |
| stage clips | These secure the slide as you use the microscope |
| stage | This holds the slide |
| diaphragm | located under the stage, it determines how much light gets through. |
| base | Bottom of the microscope, it is where one hand goes when you hold it |
| arm | The side of the microscope, one hand holds the arm when you carry it |
| coarse adjustment | Moves the stage up and down as you try to focus on the slide. Only use on low power |
| fine adjustment | Makes smaller adjustments as you focus the slide. |
