Which organs make up the male reproductive system? Penis, Scrotum, Testes, Seminiferous Tubules, Epididymis, Vas Deferens, Seminal Vesicles, Ejaculatory Duct, Prostate Gland, Cowper’s Glands, and Urethra.
Where do sperm first develop? Seminiferous Tubules.
Where do sperm mature? Epididymis
Where are sperms stored until they are ejaculated? Vas Deferens
What are the gonads (reproductive glands) in both the male and female reproductive systems? Male: Testes Female: Ovaries
What is the prostate? A gland that produces a fluid that helps keep sperm alive
What hormone is produced in males with the onset of puberty and what does it cause? Testosterone. It is a hormone that produces male secondary sex characteristics and causes physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty (ages 12-15).
Which organs make up the female reproductive system? Mons Veneris, Labia Majora , Labia Minora, Clitoris, Hymen, Ovaries, Fallopian Tubes, Uterus, Vagina
What must happen in order for fertilization to occur? Ovulation
The sperm and ovum form a zygote. Where does the zygote attach after it is formed? The lining of the Uterus
Where are the eggs produced and stored? Ovaries
Where does fertilization take place? Fallopian Tubes
What is ovulation? The release of a mature ovum from one of the ovaries.
Which organ houses the developing fetus during pregnancy? Uterus
Which organ serves as the birth canal during childbirth? Vagina
What is the male reproductive cell? Sperm
What is the female reproductive cell? ova or egg cells
What regulates temperature? Scrotum
What are the Seminal Vesicles? Two small glands that secrete a fluid rich in sugar that nourishes sperm and helps them move
What are the screenings for Cancer? Male: Testicular Examination (starts at age 40-50) Female: Pap Smear (starts at age 21)
What do you call someone who can't reproduce? Sterile
What is the surgery for Uterus removal? Hysterectomy
What monthly cycle occurs in females? Ovulation and menstruation
What are mammograms? x-rays of the breast tissue to detect precancerous or cancerous cells (yearly starting at 40; Self-examinations monthly after a woman’s period.)
What is the comma-shaped structure in one's body? Epididymis
