What are primates’ characteristics? Characterised by nails on the hand, a short snout, big brain, grasping hand, bicuspid teeth, snort nose, well developed eyes and brain.
What are hominin characteristics? Walking upright, bipedal locomotion, larger brains, and behavioural characteristics such as specialised tool use and communication through language.
What are hominoids characteristics? All apes, gorillas, and chimps. All hominids lack a tail, similar skeletal and skull features, behavioural, anatomical features, similar DNA (98.8% with chimpanzee and bonobo) – shared a recent common ancestor
What are structural changes for the genus Homo? Shorter arms, longer legs, leaner and taller, pelvis modified and foremen magnum moves further forwards
What are functional changes for the genus Homo? Teeth became smaller as diet changed, less jaw muscles as cooking began, larger skull could accommodate larger brain.
What are the cognitive changes for the genus Homo? Adapting to changing environments allow our survival, increase in complexity of language, building shelters, technology, rituals and societal structures
