Organelle Functions
(GCSE Standard) Functions of organelles in animal and plant cells
Organelle | Function |
---|---|
Cell Membrane | Controls movement of substances entering or leaving the cell |
Cell Wall | Contains the structure and strength of the cell - protects the cell |
Nucleus | Stores DNA or genetic material |
Large Vacuole | Contains the sap - water, sugar and salt |
Mitochondria | Respiration site - release of energy through aerobic respiration |
Cytoplasm | Most chemical reactions occur here |
Chloroplasts | Create chlorophyll and carry out photosynthesis |
Ribosome | Site of protein synthesis - where proteins are made |
