Organelle Functions
(GCSE Standard) Functions of organelles in animal and plant cells
| Organelle | Function |
|---|---|
| Cell Membrane | Controls movement of substances entering or leaving the cell |
| Cell Wall | Contains the structure and strength of the cell - protects the cell |
| Nucleus | Stores DNA or genetic material |
| Large Vacuole | Contains the sap - water, sugar and salt |
| Mitochondria | Respiration site - release of energy through aerobic respiration |
| Cytoplasm | Most chemical reactions occur here |
| Chloroplasts | Create chlorophyll and carry out photosynthesis |
| Ribosome | Site of protein synthesis - where proteins are made |
