types and parts of cells

Prokaryotic Cells cells that do not contain a nucleus or membrane bound organelles -- very simple cell
Eukaryotic Cells cells that have a nucleus -- complex-- plant and animal cells
Ribosomes organelle where protein synthesis takes place -- protein factory
nucleus contains the cells DNA -- only in eukaryotic cells
cell membrane around the outside of the cell that allows some materials in and out of the cell
cell smallest living part of an organism
bacteria a simple, unicellular, prokaryotic cell
DNA the genetic material of the cell
complex consisting of many different parts
organelle a tiny structure within the cell that has a specific function
cytoplasm the clear jelly-like liquid inside the cell
unicellular a living thing consisting of only one cell
multicellular a living thing consisting of more than more cell
