| Base | carrying, supports on a surface |
| Arm | carrying, supports body tube above the stage |
| Slide | holds the specimen |
| Cover Glass | lies over the specimen on the slide, protects specimen |
| Stage | surface for the slide |
| Stage Clips/Spring Clip | hold the slide in place on the stage |
| Illuminator | provides light for viewing the specimen |
| Scanning Lens | used for finding objects (5x) |
| Low Power Objective Lens | magnifies the image 10x |
| High Power Objective Lens | magnifies the image 40x |
| Eyepiece/Ocular | lens you look into for viewing, magnifies the image 10x |
| Body Tube | maintain the correct distance between the eyepiece and the objective lens |
| Coarse Adjustment Knob | make MAJOR focus changes by moving stage or body tube up and down |
| Fine Adjustment Knob | MINOR focusing changes |
| Nosepiece | allows you to change from one objective lens to another |
| Iris Diaphragm | regulate the amount of light that passes up to the specimen |
| Iris Diaphragm Lever | allows changes in the diaphragm opening to increase or decrease the amount of light to the specimen |
| Stage Hole | opening in the stage which allows light to pass from below stage to the lens |
