| Niche | The role an organism plays in a community |
| Competition | A fight between organisms in a community when their niches overlaps |
| Predation | An ecological process in which an animal kills / feeds off another animal |
| Symbiosis | An ecological relationship between two species that live close in proximity to each other |
| Commensalism | A relationship in which one animal gets the benefits, (food, shelter, etc.) |
| Mutualism | Relationship between two organisms of different species |
| Parasitism | A type of symbiosis in which one organism lives with, on, or in a host and harms it |
| Ecosystem services | Benefits humans receive from ecosystems |
| Ecology | The study of how organisms interact with their environment |
| Natural resource | Anything naturally coming from the environment that humans use |
| Conservation | The practice of using less of a resource |
| Sustainability | The ability of an ecosystem to maintain biodiversity and production indefinitely. |
| Ecological restoration | The practice of helping a degraded or destroyed ecosystem to recover from damage. |
