TermDefinition
Niche The role an organism plays in a community
Competition A fight between organisms in a community when their niches overlaps
Predation An ecological process in which an animal kills / feeds off another animal
Symbiosis An ecological relationship between two species that live close in proximity to each other
Commensalism A relationship in which one animal gets the benefits, (food, shelter, etc.)
Mutualism Relationship between two organisms of different species
Parasitism A type of symbiosis in which one organism lives with, on, or in a host and harms it
Ecosystem services Benefits humans receive from ecosystems
Ecology The study of how organisms interact with their environment
Natural resource Anything naturally coming from the environment that humans use
Conservation The practice of using less of a resource
Sustainability The ability of an ecosystem to maintain biodiversity and production indefinitely.
Ecological restoration The practice of helping a degraded or destroyed ecosystem to recover from damage.
