Cell Cycle 1. interphase, 2. mitosis, 3. cytokinesis. 4. Meiosis
(1) Interphase A. G1 - cell is actively growing to prepare for next phase B. S Phase - duplicate copy of the chromosome is built and replication enzymes build two identical copies of DNA C. G2 - cell continues growth for next phase and checks DNA for errors
(2) Mitosis Splitting of the single nucleus into two nuclei; the two sister chromatids are the ones that split
(3) Cytokinesis nuclei are separated into two new cells AKA daughter cells
(4) Meiosis occurs in germ cells and is production of gametes (sperm and egg cells) for sexual reproduction; fertilized egg will still undergo mitosis
Chromosomes the "packages" that contain DNA molecules and allow them to move around; In eukaryotic cells the chromosomes exist in the nucleus, in the prokaryotic cells, chromosomes exist in the cytoplasm
Homologous chromosomes not identical and NOT sister chromatids; these chromosomes have the same set of instructions (genes), but different versions of the instructions (alleles)
Sister chromatids identical shapes and colors; they carry the same genes and identical DNA
