the first 6 levels of organization
| Term | Definition |

| Molecule | a group of atoms bonded together (examples: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids) |
| Organelle | a specialized structure in a cell (tiny organ) (examples: nucleus, mitochondria, lysosome, golgi apparatus) |
| Cell | the smallest structural and functional unit of an organism (the first unit of life) |
| Tissue | a group of specialized cells working together for specific tasks |
| Organ | a group of tissues working together to serve a specific body function |
| Organ system | a group of organs that work together to perform several functions |
| Biotic | all living organisms in an environment |
| Abiotic | non-living parts of an environment |
