| Nitrogen base pairs | A molecule that contains nitrogen and has the chemical properties of a base |
| Adenine | One of the nucleobases. Can only pair with thymine |
| Thymine | One of the nucleobases. Can only pair with adenine |
| Cytosine | One of the nucleobases. Can only pair with guanine |
| Guanine | One of the nucleobases. Can only pair with cytosine |
| Double helix | Description of the structure of a DNA molecule |
| Gene | Basic physical and function unit of heredity (gets passed down from your parents) |
| Nucleotide | Organic molecule that is the building block of DNA. Helps signalling cells. |
| Enzymes | Biological molecules that speed up the rate of all the chemical reactions in a cell. |
| Genetic screening | Process of testing a population for a genetic disease. |
| Genetically modified organisms | an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques |
| Transgenic organisms | Used to solve problems like protecting crops from pests |
| Mutagen | Physical or chemical agent that permanently changed genetic material |
| Mutation | Change that occurs in our DNA sequence. |
