decomposer an organism that breaks down and gets energy from dead organic matter
Food chain A series of steps in which organisms transfer energy by eating and being eaten
life cycle The entire sequence of stages in the life of an organism
Hibernation A period of inactivity that some animals experience in winter that allows them to survive on stored body fat
Migration animals move from one place to another to find warmer weather, better food supplies, or a safe place to give birth to their young
Imprinting the process by which certain animals form strong attachments during an early-life critical period
Habitat Place where an organism lives
Niche An organism's role in an ecosystem, or how it makes its living.
Adaptation A trait that helps an organism survive and reproduce
camouflage The hiding of something as a result of its appearance
