1.1 Cell Structure

Aiden Chretien

TermDefinition
mitochondria (Aiden Chretien) an organelle that provides energy for the cell
nucleus (Aiden Chretien) an organelle that controls everything in the cell (the brain)
Organelles (Aiden Chretien) Little organs that perform the functions of the cell
Cytosol (Aiden Chretien) The fluid in a cell that acts as a shock absorber and sends out chemical signals
Cytoplasm (Aiden Chretien) All the organelles floating in cytosol are Cytoplasm
Cell membrane (Aiden Chretien) The phospholipid bilayer on the exterior of a cell that controls what goes in and out
Nuclear membrane (Aiden Chretien) Controls what goes in and out of the nucleus and protects the chromatin
Chromatin (DNA) (Aiden Chretien) The DNA or RNA inside of the nucleus
Endoplasmic Reticulum (Aiden Chretien) Transport channels for proteins made by Ribosomes, receives messages from the nucleus and pinches off vesicles.
Ribosomes (Aiden Chretien) Cover the Endoplasmic Reticulum and produce proteins
Vesicles (Aiden Chretien) Act as transport containers for protein and become the golgi apparatus
Golgi Apparatus (Aiden Chretien) Sort/package proteins and transport them to new vesicles and cells through the cell membrane.
Lysosomes (Aiden Chretien) Contain digestive enzymes to reuse/recycle things wile destroying invading microbes.
ATP (Aiden Chretien) Adenosine Triphosphate is the energy created by the cells.
Cell Wall* (Aiden Chretien) Helps the plants stay upright
Chloroplast* (Aiden Chretien) Used to preform photosynthesis to produce glucose
Chlorophyll* (Aiden Chretien) The thing inside of Chloroplasts that allow it to perform photosynthesis
Large vacuoles* (Aiden Chretien) Stores large amount of water to keep the plant hydrated.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
