AP Biology Unit 7
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Evolution | evolution is the change in the characteristics of a species over several generations and relies on the process of natural selection |
| Natural Selection | the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring. The theory of its action was first fully expounded by Charles Darwin and is now believed to be the main process that brings about evolution. |
| Selective Pressure | A selective pressure is any reason for organisms with certain phenotypes to have either a survival benefit or disadvantage |
| Adaptive Radiation | the diversification of a group of organisms into forms filling different ecological niches. |
| Biological Species Concept | The Biological Species Concept defines a species taxon as a group of organisms that can successfully interbreed and produce fertile offspring |
