QuestionAnswer
Natural selection A process where organisms that are better adapted will survive and reproduce
Advantageous alleles.... More likely to be passed on as they give the organism a better chance of surviving so being able to reproduce
Survival of the fittest The organism that is best suited to the environment
Darwin's theory of natural selection Organisms within a species have a range of characteristics Those best suited will reproduce so pass of advantageous alleles Advantageous alleles allow organism to out compete others
How adapatations occur... Long time no change, environmental change so organisms race to adapt so don't die, long time no change...
Fossil records show.. That organisms have been becoming increasingly more complex so supports Darwin's theory
Comparing DNA bases show... That animals have common ancestors but have changed since
Warfarin resistant rats Warfarin is a common rat poison . Mutations are random but more you use something, higher the probability it will appear. Resistant rats out competed others so most rats became resistant. Stopped using poison, no longer advantageous so resistance went.
MRSA Methillicin Resistant Staphylococcus Arius Mutated so become resistant to antibiotics Reproduce asexually so all offspring have that mutation
