| autotroph | makes its own food inside its body |
| endospore | resting bacteria cell made when things are really bad; can stay in this phase for years |
| binary fission | asexual reproduction; bacteria duplicates and splits in half |
| conjugation | bacteria exchanges genetic information with another bacteria |
| asexual reproduction | one individual duplicates and splits in half |
| sexual reproduction | 2 individuals make genetically different offspring |
| vaccine | medication that helps to prevent a virus |
| antibody | cell made by your immune system to render a virus useless |
| protein coat | surrounds a virus; attaches to host; protects genetic material |
| latent virus | a virus that hides in the host cell DNA for a period of time |
| active virus | a virus that starts replicating as soon as it infects the host |
| aerobic | needs oxygen to survive |
| anaerobic | does not need oxygen to survive |
| flagella | whip-like tail used for movement in bacteria |
