Life Cycles
| Term | Definition |

| Life Cycle | all the stages of growth that an organism goes through during its lifetime. |
| Metamorphosis | an obvious change in form from one stage to the next in the life cycle of an organism |
| Complete Metamorphosis | four stages of growth-egg, larva, pupa, and adult that an insect can go through |
| Larva | the second state in complete metamorphosis |
| Pupa | the third stage in an insect's growth in complete metamorphosis |
| Adult | the last stage in the life cycle of an insect |
| Cocoon | a protective case larvae build for themselves, before they become a pupa or chrysalis |
| Incomplete Metamorphosis | three stages of growth-egg, nymph, adult- a process that some insects go through. |
| Nymph | the second stage in incomplete metamorphosis |
| Molting | the shedding of the outer layer of skin, exoskeleton, or feathers |
