Life Cycles

TermDefinition
Life Cycle all the stages of growth that an organism goes through during its lifetime.
Metamorphosis an obvious change in form from one stage to the next in the life cycle of an organism
Complete Metamorphosis four stages of growth-egg, larva, pupa, and adult that an insect can go through
Larva the second state in complete metamorphosis
Pupa the third stage in an insect's growth in complete metamorphosis
Adult the last stage in the life cycle of an insect
Cocoon a protective case larvae build for themselves, before they become a pupa or chrysalis
Incomplete Metamorphosis three stages of growth-egg, nymph, adult- a process that some insects go through.
Nymph the second stage in incomplete metamorphosis
Molting the shedding of the outer layer of skin, exoskeleton, or feathers
