Virus and Bacteria

| virus | A non-cellular infectious agent that has two characteristics |
| bacteria | A single-celled organism with simple structure and lacking a nucleus. |
| fungi | A eukaryotic organism that has cell walls, uses spores to reproduce, and is a heterotroph that feeds by absorbing its food. |
| algae | (singular, alga) - a plant-like (photosynthetic) member of the protest group; can be single-celled or consist of clustered or multiple cells |
| protist | A eukaryotic organism that cannot be classified as an animal, plant, or fungus. |
| parasite | An organism that feeds on a living host |
| host | An organism on which a parasite lives. |
| unicellular | Made of a single cell |
| infection | Contamination or invasion of body tissue by pathogenic organisms |
| vector | An animal that transmits disease. For example a mosquito is a vector for malaria. |
| disease | An abnormal state in which the body is not functioning normally |
| antibiotic | A chemical that kills bacteria or slows their growth without harming body cells. |
| vaccine | A weakened or inactive version of a pathogen that stimulates the body's production of antibodies which can aid in destroying the pathogen |
| microbe | Microscopic life form; microorganism; germ |
| pathogen | A disease causing organism |
| prevention | Practicing health and safety habits to remain free of disease and injury |
| microbiology | the study of microorganisms |
