Cell membrane

QuestionAnswer
What do cell membranes do? Controls what enters and exits the cell by being selectively permeable.
What is the cell membrane made up of? A bilayer of lipids with embedded proteins. Called phospholipids.
What are phospholipids? Two fatty acids attached to a glycerol molecule. The phospholipids are not chemically bonded to each other, but the actual phospholipid is bonded together.
What is diffusion? The tendency of molecules to move from high concentration to low concentration. Some smaller materials can move through the plasma membrane by diffusion.
What are protein channels? Proteins that are embedded in the membrane that helps let bigger particles through. There are two kinds: Facilitated Diffusion: Active Transport:
