Cell membrane
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What do cell membranes do? | Controls what enters and exits the cell by being selectively permeable. |
| What is the cell membrane made up of? | A bilayer of lipids with embedded proteins. Called phospholipids. |
| What are phospholipids? | Two fatty acids attached to a glycerol molecule. The phospholipids are not chemically bonded to each other, but the actual phospholipid is bonded together. |
| What is diffusion? | The tendency of molecules to move from high concentration to low concentration. Some smaller materials can move through the plasma membrane by diffusion. |
| What are protein channels? | Proteins that are embedded in the membrane that helps let bigger particles through. There are two kinds: Facilitated Diffusion: Active Transport: |
