Environmental Science - Watershed Components

TermDefinition
WATERSHED An area of water, where surface water drains down to a single point
PRECIPITATION RAIN, SNOW, or ICE that flows from high elevations to low elevations into bodies of surface water
SURFACE TRIBUTARIES Lakes, rivers, streams, and creeks channel water from higher elevations to lower elevations
OTHER SURFACE WATER Surface water from trees, grass, and soil also percolates into reservoirs to recharge groundwater
HYDROLOGIC UNIT CODES A HUC address, provides a way to locate USGS water data for local area of interest.
HUC CODE DEFINED Region, Sub-region, Basin, Sub-basin, Watershed, Sub-watershed
