Organelles
Chapter 2 biology.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Cell Membrane- both | responsible for allowing certain molecules in and out of the cell. ( semi-permeable) |
| Cytoplasm- both | jelly like material, surrounds the internal cell organelles. |
| Cytoskeleton- both | collection of fibres that provide support to the organelles - movement |
| Ribosomes- both | no membrane, produces protein, smooth- not attached and rough- attached |
| Nucleus- E | holds DNA, controls cell activities |
| Nucleolus- E | ribosomes are made, RNA |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum- E | channels transporting molecules in the cell, protein folding. |
| Rough ER- E | protein produced and transported= molecules leaving are sent in vesicles that pinch off of the ER. |
| Smooth ER- E | detoxification meaning liver cells have lots, makes some types of lipids. |
| Golgi Body- E | receives items from transport vesicles pinched off of the ER, has enzymes to modify molecules and sort them, determines where they're sent (some secreted) |
| Mitochondria- E | creates ATP energy for cellular respiration, runs on glucose and needs oxygen, powerhouse of the cell. |
| Chloroplasts- E | makes glucose using light energy (photosynthesis), green (pigment that captures light energy- chlorophyll) |
| Vacuoles- E | storage of materials (water), plants- central large one and animals- several small ones. |
| Cell Wall- E | layer offering additional protection, shape maintenance. |
| Lysosomes- E | fluid filled sacs with digestive enzymes to destroy unwanted or damaged cell parts. |
