Adaptation An expression of a helpful trait coming directly from the genetic information already possessed by at least some individuals in a genetically diverse population.
Baleen Rows of comb-like plates that project from the upper jaws of filter-feeding whales.
Echolocation A method of analyzing sound aves to locate objects in the water column.
Behavior An activity an organism would do in its natural habitat.
Delayed implantation A delay in implantation of an embryo into te uterus allowing for the proper timing of birth.
The salt gland removes extra salt from sea turtles and birds
Sea snakes have a tail that is flattened laterally
Full-webbed swimmers have webbing between all of their toes
Callosities Rough patches of skin where whale lice have live in the whales hair
Pinnae a hole that functions as an ear on a seal
Spout The moisture of a whale's warm breath (which forms water droplets) and residual sea water on the whale which, when whale breathes out above water , shoots up into the air
Myoglobin The muscle protein that helps marine mammals to store oxygen in their muscle for underwater
Pods Groups that some marine mammals form
Breach When a whale jumps out of the water
Gestation The period of time in which the embryo develops before it is born
