Animal Adaptations

environment everything that surrounds and affects an animal
climate the average temperature and rainfall of an area
shelter a place such as a burrow where an animal can protect itself
metamorphosis the body changes that a butterfly goes through as it grows from an egg into an adult
adaptation a body part or behavior that enables an animal to meet its needs
camouflage enables an animal to blend in with its surroundings
mimicry an adaptation in which an animal looks like an object or another animal
instinct a behavior such as migration that an animal does not have to learn
migration the movement of a group of one type of animal from one region to another
hibernation a period when an animal goes into a long, deep sleep
