Uses of Genetics

Gel Electrophoresis A way to separate DNA by their size and shape using electrical current
Transgenic An organism that contains the DNA of another organism
Karyotype A picture of an individuals DNA
Restriction Enzyme An enzyme that cuts DNA in specific spots
Human Genome Project A project worked on by many scientists to determine the genes found in the human body
Gene Therapy A process to replace genes with other genes (used when old gene codes for a disorder)
Genetic Engineering Replacing DNA of one organism for the DNA of another organism for a specific purpose (used to create desired traits)
Recombinant DNA DNA that is created by putting together genetic material from multiple organisms
