What is interstitial fluid? Fluid in-between cells. This fluid bathes each cell in the body, allows for transfer of matter from one cell to another
How does the nervous system help the endocrine system? Certain parts of the nervous system stimulate or inhibit hormone release
What 2 ways are hormones cleared from the bloodstream? Liver neutralizes, kidney eliminates in urine.
What is the name given to a cell that is acted on by a hormone? Target Cell
How does a hormone recognize a target cell? The target cell contains a receptor site.
How does stimulation change the secretion of hormones? Normally, hormones are secreted in occasional short bursts, stimularion makes the bursts more frequent.
What 3 things regulate hormone secretion? 1) signals from the NS 2) chemical changes in the blood 3) other hormones
Which two endocrine glands are located in the brain? Pituitary and pineal
Which two endocrine glands are located in the throat? Thyroid and parathyroid
Which two endocrine glands are located in the abdominal region? Pancreas and adrenal
Which two endocrine glands are located in the pubic region? testes and ovaries (both are referred to as gonads)
