Enzyme | A protein that acts as a biological catalyst to speed up specific biochemical reactions. |
Biochemical Reaction | The changing of one molecule into a different molecule, inside a cell. |
Catalyst | A substance that starts or speeds up a chemical reaction. |
Activation Energy | The energy needed to activate (or start) a chemical reaction. |
Product | The molecule that was changed by a biochemical reaction. |
Reactant | The molecule at the start of the reaction that will be changed by the enzyme. Most reactants are substrates. |
Active Site | The specific part of an enzyme that binds to a substrate. |
Substrate | The molecule acted on by an enzyme. |
pH | A measure of how acidic or basic a substance is. |
