Dental Embryology Terminology

Apoptosis "programmed cell death" -fragmentation of a cell into membrane bound particles. -Elimination by phagocytosis by specialized cells. -Accompanies embryonic growth and differentiation.
Tissues from Endoderm "inner layer" -Epithelial lining the inside of the digestive tube except part of the mouth and pharynx. -Lining cells of all the glands which open into digestive tract including liver and pancreas.
Tissues from Ectoderm "Outer layer" -Forms CNS, lens of eye, sensory of epithelium, epidermis, nails, and hair, nasal cavity, and tooth enamel.
Tissues from Mesoderm "middle layer" -Forms the cardiac, skeletal, smooth muscle, bone, cartilage, lymph cells, blood, dentin, pulp, cementum, and periodontal ligament.
Trilaminar Disk Early stage in the development of triploblastic organisms in animals and humans. -Cells flow in over the primitive streak between the two already existing germinal layers to form the next germinal layer.
