| Term | Definition |

| STIMULUS | An action or condition that provokes a response. |
| RESPONSE | A change in a system resulting from a stimulus. |
| HOMEOSTASIS | The tendency of an organism or cell to maintain a balanced state so as to maintain health and function. |
| PATHOGEN | A microorganism or virus that can cause disease. |
| FEVER | The body's response to being infected by a pathogen; causes the body temperature to increase. |
| VOMITTING | The body's response to eating contaminated food. |
| HUNGER PAIN | The body's response to not getting enough calories in; not eating enough food. |
| DEHYDRATION | The body's response to not drinking enough water. |
| WILTING | A plant's response to not getting enough water. |
| STUNTED GROWTH | A plant's response to not getting enough nutrients from the soil. |
| INTERNAL STIMULI | Cues from within an animal for survival; (hunger, thirst, sleepiness). |
| STOMATA | Small openings on the underside of a leaf through which oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water can move in and out. |
