Electron Negatively charged (-1) particle of atom found in nucleus
Element Purest form of a substance
Atomic Number # of protons in the nucleus of an atom
Atomic Mass # of protons + # of neutrons in the nucleus of atom
Periodic Table Table that shows the arrangement of elements
Molecule Two or more atoms bonded together
Compound Molecule of two or more elements bonded together
Mixture Two or more substances NOT chemically bonded
DNA Genetic Code of Life
Homeostasis Internal, constant state of balance
Metabolism The sum of all the chemical reactions in your body
Cell Smallest unit of life
Organelle Cell part that performs a specific function
Tissue Group of cells working together to perform a function
Organ Group of tissues that work together to perform a function
Organ System Group of organs that work together to perform a specific function
Organism Any being that possess all of the characteristics of life
Physical Property characteristic that can be observed and measured without changing the chemical identity (color, density, mass)
Chemical Property characteristic or behavior of a substance that may be observed when it undergoes a chemical change or reaction.(flammability, release of an odor, or gas during a reaction)
