Homeostasis
| Term | Definition |

| Receptor | Receptors are groups of specialised cells. they detect stimulants, and changes within in enviroment |
| Coordination Centre | coordination centres receive and process information |
| Effector | A muscle or gland that carries out the appropriate response. |
| Homeostasis | The main regulations of internal conditions to maintain optimal conditions for enzyme action and cell function |
| Sensory Neuron | A nerve cell that sends information via impulses into the CNS |
| CNS (central nervous system) | The central nervous system, consisting of the brain and spinal chord |
| Stimulus | A change in the environment- eg. light |
| Motor Neuron | A nerve cell that sends information via impulses from the CNS to an effector |
| Reflex | A response the body carries out without thinking |
| Relay Neuron | A small nerve cell in the CNS that transmits information between neurons |
| Synpase | A gap between nerve cells |
| PNS | The peripheral nervous system, consists of nerves connecting the CNS to bodily organs and effectors |
| Impulses | Electrical messages that transmit information along a neurone |
