Carcinogenesis

Uncontrolled Cell Division

TermDefinition
Cancer A disease caused by uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body.
Tumor Abnormal growth of body tissue
Benign tumor Type of tumor that do not spread/invade other parts of tissues and they are rarely threat to health.
Malignant tumor Type of tumor that spread to distant locations and becomes life threatening.
Metastasis Stage where cancer cells break away from the original (primary) tumor, travel through the blood or lymph system, and form a new tumor in other organs or tissues of the body.
Angiogenesis Stage where there is growth of new blood vessels that tumors need to grow.
Breast cancer Most prevalent type of cancer among women.
Lung, Bronchus and tracheal cancer Most prevalent type of cancer among men.
