| intertubular dentin | also known as the peritubular dentin; intertubular dentin is the body of dentin, which comprises the the crown and root. this dentin consists of type I collagen fibers and inorganic crystals of hydroxyapatite; it is also less calcified. |
| osteodentin | a type of reparative (tertiary) dentin which is formed under an exposure. osteodentin has hard-set calcium hydroxide, and may have different forms; this type of dentin can sometimes resemble bone more than dentin. |
| sclerotic (transparent) dentin | dentin tubules are obstructed by mineral; happens often in the elderly, and usually in the tooth root. the defect in dentin is said to be a spontaneous crystalization that blocks dentinal tubules which prevents protection from future damage. |
| dead tracts | defects in dentinal tubules. this defect is the result of loss odontoblastic processes, which will lead to the death of odontoblasts. |
