Scientific Process

Components to the scientific process/method

Observation An act of noticing or perceiving
Question Follows the observation-- presents a matter for investigation
Hypothesis Educated guess
Experiment To test
Independent Variable The variable in an experiment that does not depend on anything else-- ex. types of gum
Dependent Variable Usually the thing that is being tested for-- ex. size of bubble
Control Group The group that is unchanged-- ex. 50 plants receiving water only
Experimental Group The group that is being changed/tested-- ex. 50 plants receiving water AND fertilizer
Analyze To examine critically for a conclusion
Communicate Presenting your findings
