Cell process (LT 1c)
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Cell Transport | The movement of molecules across a cell membrane. |
| Mitosis | The process through which a cell is able to reproduce forming two identical cells to help organisms grow larger, repair injury, and replace dead cells. |
| Homeostasis | The ability to maintain stable internal conditions. |
| Photosynthesis | The process through which plants use carbon dioxide, water, and the sun's energy to make food. |
| Cellular Respiration | The process by which oxygen is used to break down glucose into carbon dioxide, water, and ATP energy |
| Active Transport | The movement of molecules across a cell membrane from a low concentration to a high concentration that REQUIRES ENERGY. |
| Passive Transport | The movement of molecules across a cell membrane from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration without the need of energy. Also called diffusion. |
| Osmosis | The diffusion of WATER across a membrane from high concentration to low concentration. |
| Photosynthesis | water + carbon dioxide + sunlight --> oxygen + glucose |
| Cellular Respiration | oxygen + glucose --> water + carbon dioxide + ATP energy |
| Glucose | food (sugar) produced by chloroplasts in plant cells |
| How do Mitochondria and Chloroplasts work together? | These organelles work together in plant cells - the chloroplasts make food for the cell through photosynthesis while the mitochondria use the food to create ATP energy for the cell through cellular respiration |
| How do the Nucleus and Ribosomes work together? | The nucleus is the brain of the cell the copies the DNA instructions the ribosomes need to make proteins. |
| How do Lysosomes and Mitochondria work together? | Lysosomes contains digestive enzymes needed to break down food for the mitochondria to make ATP energy for the cell through cellular respiration. |
| How do the Cell Membrane and Lysosomes work together? | The lysosomes break down waste then move through the cytoplasm to the cell membrane to release the waste from the cell. |
| How do the Cell Wall and Vacuole work together? | Both of these organelles are in plant cells. The vacuole stores water in plant cells to help the cell wall support the cell. |
