| Term | Definition |

| Phenotype | The outward expression of the genotype |
| Genotype | The genetic constitution of an individual E.g. eye colour (Bb) |
| Heterozygous | When a pair of genes are different. E.g. brown eyes & blue eye (Bb) |
| Homozygous | When a pair of genes are the same. E.g. same eye colour gene from both parent (BB). |
| Recessive gene | When a gene is not expressing itself. |
| Dominant gene | Gene when working normally and expressing itself in the organism |
| Alleles | Alternative forms of genes. Most genes have two alternative forms |
| Locus | Position of a gene on a chromosome |
| Gene | Portion of a chromosome controlling the development of a particular characteristic. |
| Gamete | A sex sell. Stores 26 chromosome |
| F1 generation | The first filial generation |
