| element | something that is pure, it cannot be broken down |
| carbohydrates | molecules used for energy sources by living things |
| fats / oils / lipids | long term storage of energy, not water soluble |
| proteins | molecules used to help growth and repair, builds muscles |
| enzymes | speed up chemical reactions in the body, such as digestion |
| nucleic acids | DNA and RNA, store genetic information |
| mixture | two substances mixed together, but not chemically combined |
| homogeneous mixture | all parts are dissolved and mixed evenly throughout, such as koolaid |
| heterogenous mixture | parts are not dissolved and can be separated, such as fruit salad |
