Vocabulary for Ecology 1 Learning Task 1
| Term | Definition |

| ecosystem | all the living organisms living in an area and the abiotic/non living factors they use to stay alive |
| population | 2 or more organisms of the same species |
| abiotic | NOT ALIVE...non-living parts of an ecosystem (examples include: soil, moisture, rock, oxygen, nutrients, sun, water) |
| biotic | ALIVE...living parts of an ecosystem (examples include: tree, bacteria, dog, human, mosquito) |
| niche | the role or job of an organism in the ecosystem (predator, prey, producer, etc.) |
| predator | an organism that eats/kills another organisms |
| prey | an organism that is eaten/killed by another organism |
| parasite | an organism that lives in/on another organism and damages it while using it to survive (lice, flea, tapeworm, etc.) |
| host | the organism that is being damaged by a parasite living in/on it |
| community | All of the living (biotic) organisms living in an area (does NOT include the non-living factors) |
