Classification Vocab

Characteristics of Organisms

TermDefinition
Autotrophic An organism that produces its own food, mostly through the process of photosynthesis.
Sexual reproduction A type of reproduction in which two cells combine to form offspring. (Having two parents)
Asexual reproduction The process by which a single organism produces offspring that has identical genetic material. (Having one parent)
Heterotroph An organism that consumes other organisms to get nutrition or energy.
Prokaryotic Cell A Simple cell without a membrane bound nucleus or organelles.
Eukaryotic Cell A Complex cell with a membrane bound nucleus and organelles.
Unicellular Consists of a single, simple cell.
Multicellular Consists of many, complex cells.
