TermDefinition
Pericardium a fibrous sac that encloses the heart and great vessels
Veins large blood vessel that carries blood from the rest of the body to the heart
Capillaries tiny blood vessel that transports blood between larger blood vessels and other tissues in the body
Arteries large blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart
Oxygenated blood high in oxygen and low in carbon dioxide
Deoxygenated blood that is oxygen poor
Agglutination a reaction in which particles (as red blood cells or bacteria) suspended in a liquid collect into clumps
Ventricles large chamber in the heart that receives blood from an atrium and pumps blood to the rest of the body.
Atria The thin-walled chambers of the heart that pump blood into the ventricles
Septum Divides the right and left chambers of the heart
Valves A flap of tissue in the heart or a vein that prevents blood from flowing backward
Antibodies a protein, produced by the immune system, that either attack invading pathogens or marks them for killing
Pulse a rhythmical throbbing of the arteries as blood is propelled through them, typically as felt in the wrists or neck
Plasma Liquid part of blood, carries hormones, nutrients,antibodies
Platelets fragments that play an important role in forming blood clots
white blood cells fight infection
red blood cells Oxygen carrying cells in the blood throughout the body
Vaccine a substance made of weakened, killed, or partial pathogens and designed to protect the body from future invasions of that pathogen
Immunity the movement of molecules from areas
cancer/leukema uncontrolled cell division of abnormal cell
