Ecosystems

TermDefinition
Producer A living thing that can use sunlight to make it's own food.
Predator An animal that hunts other animals for food.
Prey An animal that is hunted by another for food.
Food Web Pathways of energy that overlap in a ecosystem.
Food Chain The transfer of energy from the sun to producer to consumer.
Ecosystem An area where living and non-living things interact.
Consumer A living thing that has to hunt or gather it's own food.
Herbivore A consumer that only eats plants.
Carnivore A consumer that only eats meat.
Omnivore A consumer that eats meat and plants.
Adaptation A change or the process of change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment.
Decomposer An organism that puts materials from dead plants and animals back into soil, air, or water.
