Domain and Kingdoms
Domain, Vocab, 3 Kingdoms Quiz Flashcards
Question | Answer |
---|---|
What is Unicellular? | One cell or one called organism |
What is Multicellular? | An organism made of many cells |
What is a Prokaryote? | Lacks a nucleus and other membrane bound organisms |
What is a Eukaryote? | Has a Nucleus and other membrane bound organisms |
What is Asexual? | Requires one parent, offspring is identical to parent, cell makes a copy of its DNA and splits it in half. This process is called Mitosis |
What is Sexual? | Requires two parents, offspring has half of its DNA from mom and half of its DNA from Dad |
What is Autotroph? | An organism that produces its own nutrients (food) |
What is Heterotroph? | An organism that obtains nutrients (food) by eating other organisms |
What is Chemotroph? | Obtaining energy by using chemicals |
What is Phototroph? | Obtaining energy by using light (photosynthesis) |
What is Mitosis? | A cell making a copy of its DNA and splits it in half |
What are the Characteristics of Eubacteria? | Chemotroph, Autotroph, Heterotroph, Prokaryote, Asexual, Unicellular, CW made of peptidoglycan |
What are the Characteristics of Archaebacteria? | Prokaryote, Asexual, Autotroph, Heterotroph, Unicellular, Has a CW with other elements but no peptidoglycan |
What are the Characteristics of Fungi? | Has a CW with glucans and chitin but no peptidoglycan, heterotroph, unicellular, sexual and asexual |
What are the differences between Kingdom Eubacteria and Archaebacteria? | Eubacteria uses chemicals to obtain energy which is chemotroph and it has a CW made of peptidoglycan while Archaebacteria has a CW but no peptidoglycan |
What is Binomial Nomenclature? | The system of scientific naming |
What are the steps to write a Scientific Name? | Start the first word with a capital letter, the second word will remain lowercase, the 2 words would be underlined if hand-writtened, if on computer italicize the name |
What are the Levels of Taxonomy? | Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species |
What is the mnemonic device of the Levels of Taxonomy? | Dumb King Philip Came Over From Great Spain |
What is the Kingdoms to the Domains? | Archae -----------> Archaebacteria Bacteria ------------> Eubacteria Eukarya ----------> Fungi |
What is the difference between Mold, Mildew, Mushrooms to Yeast? | Mold, Mildew, and Mushrooms are all multicellular while Yeast is unicellular |
What is the 6 Kingdoms of Taxonomy? | Plants, Animals, Protists, Fungi, Archaebacteria, Eubacteria |
What is so unique about Domain Eukarya? | All complex organisms are eukaryotic and they reproduce by mitosis and Eukaryotic cells are typically much larger than prokaryotes. Also Domain Eukarya is a eukaryote but kingdom Fungi is a prokaryote. |
