Cellular Structures
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| ribosomes (ry-bo-zomes) | produces protein |
| cell membrane | protective barrier that encloses the cell |
| chloroplast | uses energy from Sun to make food (photosynthesis) (in plants only) |
| lysosomes (lie-so-zomes) | destroys worn out organelles; attacks foreign envaders; digests food {recycling center --or-- Suicide Sacks} |
| endoplasmic reticulum | makes lipids (fats); assists in production processing; transports proteins |
| cell wall | structure that surrounds the cell membrane & provide support to the cell |
| Gogi complex (Gogi apparatus) | processes & transports protein other materials out of the cells {UPS services} |
| mitochondria | breaks down food to make ADP (energy "power house"; think of MIGHTY MITOchondria) |
| nucleus | control center of the cell (stores cell's DNA) |
| vacuoles | stores water & aides in digestion } |
