Term | Definition |

Sustainable | An action or process that can continue indefinitely without using up resources or causing serious damage to the environment |
Ecological Footprint | One measure of sustainability; an area of biologically productive land and water that an individual or a population requires in order to produce the resources and absorb the waste |
Biomes | Unique climatic and ecological features of each such region |
Terrestrial biomes | Land biomes, usually named after the dominant vegetation in the area. |
Aquatic biomes | classified on the basis of physical and chemical features, such as salt content. |
Ecosystems | Consists of communities of organisms and the physical environment they share |
Biotic | living organisms |
Abiotic | Physical environment that surrounds the biotic community |
Consumers | Organisms that obtain energy by eating all or parts of other organisms or their remains. Consumers can be primary, secondary, tertiary, and Quaternary |
Ecological niche | Set of resources a population needs to survive and reproduce |
