Understand terms relating to classification of animals
| Term | Definition |

| vertebrates | Animal with a spine, or backbone |
| invertebrates | Animals without a spine, or backbone |
| classify | to sort, or put into groups |
| warm-blooded | animals whose body temperature stays the same |
| cold-blooded | animals whose body temperature changes with their surrounding |
| mammals | warm blooded vertebrate, feeds its young milk |
| amphibians | cold blooded vertebrate with moist skin, who breathes with gills and lungs |
| reptiles | cold blooded vertebrate with dry skin, who breathes with lungs |
| vascular | Plants that have tubes |
| nonvascular | plants that do NOT have tubes |
| reproduce | to make more of the same |
| spore | a tiny cell that can grow into a new plant |
| xylem | tubes that carry nutrients and water from the roots to other parts of the |
| phloem | tubes that carry nutrients from the leaves to the rest of the plants |
| gymnosperm | a plant producing naked seeds (pine) |
| angiosperm | A plant producing protected seeds ( fruit, flowers) |
| birds | warm blooded vertebrates with feathers, and lay eggs |
| fish | coldblooded vertebrates with scales, who breathe with gills |
