| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Nucleus | The control center of the cell that regulates all cell activity |
| Nuclear Membrane | Controls the movement of substances in and out of the nucleus through pores. |
| DNA | Found in the nucleus. Carries the instructions to direct all activities of the cell including growth and reproduction. |
| Cell Membrane | Controls movement of items in and out of the cell through various pores |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | A transport system made of membrane sacs and channels that makes materials and carries them throughout the cell. |
| Chloroplast | Transforms energy from the sun into food/energy for the cell |
| Mitochondria | Transforms chemical (stored) energy into ATP which is energy for the cell |
| Vacuole | Stores both of the cells waste and food temporarily, also stores water |
| Golgi Apparatus | Modifies and packages proteins for distribution outside cell. |
| Lysosomes | Move around the cell cleaning up and doing cell maintenance. |
| Ribosomes | Protein factories that receive instructions from DNA to construct proteins, which are the cells building materials. Some are attached to the ER. |
| Cell Wall | Provides protection, support, and structure to the cell (outermost layer) |
