Organelles

TermDefinition
Nucleus The control center of the cell that regulates all cell activity
Nuclear Membrane Controls the movement of substances in and out of the nucleus through pores.
DNA Found in the nucleus. Carries the instructions to direct all activities of the cell including growth and reproduction.
Cell Membrane Controls movement of items in and out of the cell through various pores
Endoplasmic Reticulum A transport system made of membrane sacs and channels that makes materials and carries them throughout the cell.
Chloroplast Transforms energy from the sun into food/energy for the cell
Mitochondria Transforms chemical (stored) energy into ATP which is energy for the cell
Vacuole Stores both of the cells waste and food temporarily, also stores water
Golgi Apparatus Modifies and packages proteins for distribution outside cell.
Lysosomes Move around the cell cleaning up and doing cell maintenance.
Ribosomes Protein factories that receive instructions from DNA to construct proteins, which are the cells building materials. Some are attached to the ER.
Cell Wall Provides protection, support, and structure to the cell (outermost layer)
